Monthly Journaling Pages

My Freshmen are using monthly journaling pages, along with other activities I have received several responses about these so I am re-posting.

I simply give my kids the page and check for completeness at the end of the month. I used to give them a prompt every day and make them write it, date it, and write a half-page response. With these, I set no requirements, which threw them at first, but I simply explained that it was their journal and to do what they thought needed to be done. I could tell they thought I had lost my mind, and I wasn't sure how this would turn out. When I went to grade them I couldn't believe how much work my kids had put into their journal pages! Full pages of poetry, illustrations, recipes, stories, etc... Giving up control and letting them take over has been one of the best things I have ever done.

These make good activities for interactive notebooks. Next year I plan on having a "grab a snack and write Fridays." This will allow them to share some of the recipes they have found or shared. This should be fairly quick to do and can lead to other writing activities, i.e. writing critiques, responses, memories, etc...

  1. I am unable to open "All Journal Pages Here" and "February" :( Do you have an August and December page available?

  2. Hi Lori, I went to the link on my Google Drive and all of the pages were gone! I re-uploaded them and put in a new link. Hopefully that will work for you. Let me know if you have any problems and leave me an email address and I will just send you the file. I do not have ones for December or August because they are short months at my school. However, in the file I do have two similar journal pages that you might like. Thanks for letting me know about the broken links.

  4. Hi, Dawn, I love your journaling ideas, but when I clicked on the link it was empty. I'd love to have an August page, since we are headed back next week.

    1. Thanks for visiting my blog. I do not have one for August or December since they are short months. I do have a couple of pages that are similar that you can use. I don't know why they keep disappearing from my Google Drive but they do. I will upload them again if that does not work, I will be happy to send the file to you in an email.

    2. Hi Dawn,
Thank you so much for all of these incredible resources! I don't seem to be able to open the journaling pages at all. If you have a minute I would love a copy - my email address is eswain@pennfield.org

    3. Dawn,
I'm not positive, but your pages might be disappearing because you are sharing them with full permissions. I think that might mean that anyone can just move them from your Google Drive to their own. I'm not an expert on Google Drive, but is there a way to make them view only? I think then that folks could make a copy but not move them out of your Drive.

I am looking for the Feb one as well and your Journal Pages folder is empty. Hhhmmmm.

Great blog. I'm a newbie at using Pinterest for teaching ideas and am now following many of your boards. Thanks so much.
