Use Velcro Dots to Calm Students

Today I wanted to share a little tip to help calm those students that become distracted and squirmy during lessons. I buy Velcro dots and stick them to the upper right and left hand corners of students desks. The calming effect the students get from rubbing their fingers over the Velcro is amazing!

I recommend the black because they don't show dirt, and students are less tempted to write on them. My kids love them and will often ask for new ones if their's go missing. I promise that your kids will settle down and lessons will be more effective without all of the distractions.  Try it and let me know how it worked for you.

  2. I have been doing this for years and it really helps (notice I didn't say CURES) the problem. You can also put it under the desk in the upper corners if your janitors have any problems with it. I put it on top though so I can see if they are still there after a class leaves. I will have kids ask me where the Velcro is at the beginning of the year if they have had me before. It's really kind of comical.

  3. Dawn...Where do you buy these? I looked at Target and couldn't find. Michael's maybe?? Love this idea!!! I shared with my co-teacher and we can't wait to try this out. I have specific kidos in mind and I KNOW this is going to make a huge difference with my severely ADHD students.
